The $5bn mobile flutter
Punters will gamble $5bn a year on mobile casino services 2012, says Juniper Research.
Its report ´Mobile Gambling: Casinos, Lotteries and Betting Delivery (4th edition)´ predicts strong growth in single-user games such as slot machines, and multiplayer gambling tournaments. It says market deregulation, greater 3G coverage and simpler products will drive the market explosion.
However, Juniper also warns against over-optimism, observing that in many markets, such as the US, remote casinos are prohibited. The report also concludes: the gross ‘win’ from mobile casino services will rise from less than $5m in 2007 to $133m in 2012; the UK currently accounts for more than 60 per cent of total wagers; the UK proportion will be less that 20 per cent by 2012; average monthly wager levels have already exceeded $100 in several markets.
